Well, I think it's probably true that we have a lot of ';crap'; in our intestines because many of us have a lousy diet and don't get enough fiber. I would start with trying to get more fiber in your diet. Psyllium husk fiber really gets things moving.
If you are talking about someone sticking something up there to flush things out, there are risks involved. If the colon is punctured and feces get into your blood stream, it is potentially fatal. If you do this, make sure you are going to someone that knows what they are doing.
I would stick with getting more fiber in your diet. The truth about colon cleansing?
Colons have been around for millions of years. The digestive system - including liver %26amp; kidneys - does a pretty good job of keeping your body clean.
And, a good way of getting money out of your pocket and into the hucksters' pockets is to make up some story about colon cleansing - or the magic of magnets, or the curative power of radium.
So, eat vegetables and whole grains, and don't waste your time and money on something that has no scientific or medical basis.
Rachel,
I asked a doctor about this. The bottom line is - it's all a bunch of crap (ha ha). The walls of your colon are not too dissimilar from the lining of your sinuses - roughly speaking. Your colon walls continually excrete a continual layer of slimy mucous while also quickly growing and shedding cells. This protects the lining and facilitates the movement of fecal material through the colon. In other words - there's no way that what they are telling you could be true.
Now - for the part that is kind of true: there are plenty of cracks and crevices in the colon. As you get older, stuff can get in them. As more stuff finds it's way into various small pockets, they can become infected. This is called diverticulitis, and is a very, very serious problem, usually requiring hospitalization and strong antibiotics. If it goes too long, you can get a hole in your colon wall and it can kill you. Trust me - if you have it, you'll know. It's not something you walk around feeling sluggish about and not knowing for sure. It's caused by decades of a diet really low in fiber - of which guys are particularly susceptible because we like to fill up on meat and potatoes.
Secondly - it's true that things move through you better if you eat plenty of fiber - which used to be called roughage. The kind you buy, like metamucil, is made from dried psyllium husks. The fiber from this plant product ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psyllium ) is water soluble, and very safe, and provides volume and firmness to your 'waste'.
A cheap generic costco or wal-mart brand psyllium dietary supplement will keep your colon walls sparkly clean and will do everything that the high dollar highly touted mystery gut products do.

It's B.S. All it does is flush out today the stuff that you're going to poop out tomorrow. And John Wayne didn't have 40 pounds etc. in there

There is a saying, ';Death Begins In The Colon'; which I believe is right on.
The more you learn about the critical role our gastrointestinal tract plays with your entire health, the better off you will be.
I do not know of a good home made recipe. But if you find one and you don't experience good results, I would check into the Colonix colon cleanse at http://www.drnatura.com
They have what I believe to be the number one colon cleanse and parasite removal program on the market.
Because of the tremendous benefit I experienced with their product, I created a natural health website to share my personal experience with the colon cleansing program http://www.healthbanquet.com/colon-clean鈥?/a>
If I would have not have found this product, I would have thought there was nothing to this colon cleansing business. How wrong I would have been. Even Jesus Christ spoke about the value of cleansing the colon.
Was Colonix worth my hard earned money? Well lets see, I was spending thousands of dollars each year, and year after year, trying to regain my health. My life was spent going from doctor to doctor. My quality of life was shot.
Was it worth it for me? You betcha! I no longer spend my life going from doctor to doctor appointment praying to God that someone can help me get well.
I have my life back. What kind of price can you put on that? I am no longer trapped in a toxic body with about every odd and concerning poor health symptom one could experience. I no longer have to spend all my time going to doctors.
So yes, the money was worth it for me, and that is the understatement of the year.
So choose well, as your decision will affect your outcome.

I would never take anything to clean my colon without asking my doctor about this. how would you know your colon needed to be cleaned without having test ran. you could do more harm than good and cause future medical problems.
They say you can lose up to 15 pounds that way but Iv never known anyone to do it.
you cleanse your colon when you poop...so why do you need extra stuff when all it might do is make you sick ???
It is all fake...
