when i detox, i usually go in stages. this may or may not be what you're looking for, here's my usual course of action for when i feel internally icky;
first 24-48 hours- tea,juice, water.
i find that tea is a great way to make me feel better. my favorites for gastronomical cleansing are chamomile, mint, and ginger teas. drinking tea has a psychological effect of cleansing as well. it keeps me fresh and hydrated, which is important because i don't consume solid foods for the first 24 hours. drink plenty of water! also, if you don't think you can go that long without food, try drinking juices- cranberry, apple, mixes- this will keep your blood sugar up.however, try to drink two cups of tea for every serving of juice. you're trying to cleanse.
if you MUST have something to eat, try some dry crackers or cheerios. it really doesn't take much to keep your body running as long as you have plenty of fluids.
keep drinking fluids until you have a bowel movement. this *usually* takes less than 48 hours, but in case it doesn't, don't go more than 2 days on just tea and juice. just don't.
after, ease yourself in to a diet. i like to start with a light salad; any foods that are light and have a lot of fiber. try green salads- romaine lettuce, iceberg lettuce, kale, spinach, cabbage. mix in some almond slivers for protein and flavor, and add some mandarin orange wedges if you have a sweet tooth. if you like, add a light salad dressing- vinaigrette, olive oil, or the like.
remember the old food pyramid, with the food groups? over the next couple of days, add things to your diet in this order:
veggies
veggies %26amp; fruit
veggies, fruit, fish
veggies, fruit, fish, grains
try to avoid complex carbohydrates for a couple of days- they're a little bit harder to digest, and you want to ease them into you system so you don't ';clog';. try avoiding red meats and poultry for at least 5 days, or try for a week (if you're not already vegetarian) these are very difficult on your system to digest. keep fats to a minimum- i find that dairy, eggs and cheese are very harsh on my system if i don't use extreme moderation. i usually like to avoid them for a good 7 days or so.
sweets, you can add at your own discretion. squares of dark chocolate are my guilty pleasure, and usually keep a few handy, even during the first 24 hours- as long as i don't pig out on a whole pound or something, i've found chocolate actually helps me detox. the same with honey- it's natural, delicious, and makes a great salad dressing.
i hope this helps!
